Getting Here

Finding Hooked on Barra is part of the adventure. We’re just over an hour from Darwin – remote enough to feel wild, but easy to reach.

Directions from Darwin

Head south on the Stuart Highway Turn left onto the Arnhem Highway (toward Jabiru) Drive past Humpty Doo for 20 minutes and look for Anzac Parade on your left

Important: Read this part closely

When you turn onto Anzac Parade, follow it all the way to the end.

You'll come across the Humpty Doo Barramundi Farm boom gate — but don’t stop there unless you're after a long wait and no barra.

Instead, about 100 metres before the boom gate, there’s a gravel NT track on the right-hand side.

Take that track and follow it straight to the river — you’ll arrive at Hooked on Barra. We’ll be there, ready to go.

Did the Hooked on Barra tour with my son — we had a blast! Everything was ready to go, and the guides were great with casting tips. My son caught a barra and was stoked. Beautiful setting and an easy hour of action. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the NT!

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

Is the tour suitable for beginners or those with no fishing experience?

Absolutely. Whether you’ve never held a rod or you’re chasing that first barra thrill, we’ve got you covered. Our team gives a quick lesson and sets you up with gear that’s easy to handle — no experience needed, just a good attitude and maybe a bit of luck.

Can children participate in the fishing tour?

Definitely. Kids aged 3 and up are welcome to join in the fun. It’s safe, educational, and a blast for the whole family. Just keep in mind that children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

FAQ image

What safety measures are in place during the tour??

All fishing happens from secure, land-based casting zones — some shaded, all clearly marked. We also have throwable floatation buoys on hand for emergencies, and staff are always nearby to help. You’ll get a safety briefing before you start so everyone feels confident and relaxed.

Do I need a fishing licence to participate?

Not at all. Since it’s a private land-based experience, there’s no fishing licence required. Just book, show up, and we’ll handle the rest.

What happens if I catch a fish? Can I keep it?

It’s catch and release only — but you’ll still walk away with a great story and, if you're quick with the camera, a brag-worthy photo. We encourage guests to snap their own pics and share the barra love.

What facilities are available on-site for visitors?

We’ve kept it simple and close to nature. You’ll find shaded areas, benches, and basic bush toilets. We don’t sell food or drinks, so feel free to bring a snack and plenty of water. The real value here is the setting — pure, scenic Top End wilderness.

How do I get there?

We’re about an hour and fifteen minutes from Darwin. Head south on the Stuart Highway, then turn left onto the Arnhem Highway and continue past Humpty Doo. When you reach Anzac Parade, turn left and follow it all the way to the end. You’ll see the Humpty Doo Barramundi Farm boom gate — don’t bother stopping there, you’ll be waiting a while. Instead, take the NT track to the right about 100 metres before the boom gate. Follow that road straight to the water — you’ll find us at the end. Visit our Getting Here Page for more information.
